The Black and White album
Between 1999 and 1998,I went once again back to the Heart of Art.Drawing !
That was indeed a magical Odyssey,a mistery tour,a voyage acroos the Universe of my deepest inner intimate dreams...and nightmares !
During this period of charcoal drawings ans sketches,i have worked long and lonely hours in my studio but also moved around, working in different places, southern Spain,3 weeks at a friend's farm two miles from the beach, spending many sunsets drawing by the sea with some friends to keep me company and after the light was gone,a nice swim in the cool Mediterranean sea under the moonlight and the shimmering stars.
That's one of the great things about drawing. You can work anywhere without going yourself through the
trouble of taking the whole Art "furniture" with you.
For oil painting on canvas,it absolutely demands your dear presence in Studio, back to the settled down artist routine and daily ritual.
Drawing is a difficult exercise, cause nothing preferably should go wrong and if it does there's little you can do about it.
Drawing black and white is definitely the take it or leave it side of the fine arts trade.
Antonio Pessoa
I've always used classic materials, such as acrylic on canvas, charcoal on paper, watercolors and oil on canvas.
2006 I began using for the first time the digital Art possibilities.
Either I start painting on canvas, photograph it and then add some digital work ,or else I use directly photography adding digital art on it.
It's fascinating !
Although I simply classify it as mixed media the truth is that there's a lot of digital touch on it.
Working out ideas using digital Art provides me with a breathtaking speed of action.
Plastic conclusions come up a whole lot faster, fact wich therefore enables me to improve a lot faster too and to accomplish solid and interesting Art expression results, otherwise not possible as when I'm still using the old traditional methods and procedures.
Self criticism is very important for me.
After the job is done I look at my art work and definitely I'm totally aware I could have done better.
My ego is in peace!
I'm just another human being.
As a matter of fact, what really counts is to be able to use as much of my inner energy as possible.
If I can do that every each day, then I'm happy,or at least even with my duty as an artist.
Self-criticism seems to be the most reliable source in order to turn on the "Getting better all the time"process.
Self-criticism is a dangerous game because you're on your own, although it's definitely rather healthy handling this scepticism attitude to be used and abused on a daily basis.
Nobody is going to tell you how to do it.
If you're an artist the first step is to get used to be on your own.
A take it or leave it responsibility.
NEW ERA 2006 could be the beginning of a great friendship.Where is it going to lead me?I don't know. But for me it's appealing enough just the idea of breaking up with the past and start a brand-new period of Art work and communication. If one image is worth one thousand words, then why do I write?
Well,I write obviously to communicate, but basically to become more and more compact and concentrated in what I'm doing
To prevent distraction and enhance togetherness.
If I took the bait (...and I did! ) and made up my mind to take the challenge, then I might as well do it right. For me,for all Art lovers, for the Universe...
I consider myself a quiye experienced Studio worm,so I suppose I should know by now what's at stake.
Belief, patience , hard work and intense straightforwardness !
